Opto-electronic device modelling and its application on organic solar cells by Dr. Suman Banerjee

Abstract

Organic solar cells (OSCs) have gained much research attention for its ease of manufacturing, high efficiency and potential application to role to role processing on flexible substrates. Opto-electronic device modelling plays a crucial role to understand the devices and effectively improve its performance. The talk will emphasise on the development of a general model to describe spectral response and current-voltage characteristics of OSCs and its application to understand important phenomenon like optical effects in thin film stack, exciton diffusion, exciton dissociation and the role of active layer and contacts in device efficiency. An efficient way to select optimum thicknesses of the constituent layers and brief comment on the degradation mechanism will also be presented in the talk.

About the speaker
 

Dr. Suman Banerjee has received his M.Sc-Ph.D dual degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2014. In his doctoral and brief post-doctoral research at IIT Kanpur, he worked on organic solar cell device modelling and device fabrication. He has also worked on the development of efficient thin film deposition and device characterisation systems. Currently he is working as a research engineer at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. His primary research interests are efficient solar cell development, device modelling and instrumentation for solar cell research.
