 Abstract:

This presentation will outline the major research activities in the Energy and Water areas at the School of Engineering at the University of Waikato. Major focuses of research include process integration and pinch analysis for industrial energy and emissions reduction. For over 15 years this has been a major focus for much of the group and has resulted in major projects with companies and dozens of high quality publications. Other areas of research include energy systems analysis with a focus on energy return on energy invested as an important metric for sustainability and feasibility, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, air flow optimisation for improved heat transfer, refrigeration systems, biogas production and optimisation, waste water treatment, super capacitors for short term energy storage, and energy reduction through best practice maintenance. Researchers in the group have close linkages with major New Zealand companies and government agencies and the presentation will outline some of the benefits and projects that are underway with some of these.
