Seminar Abstract:
Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are ubiquitous these days propelling myriads of consumer electronics, (hybrid) electric vehicles, and mid-to-large grid storage. Oxides and polyanionic frameworks form two distinct class of electrode materials for batteries. However, the unprecedented applications of LIBs have led to concern over the paucity and cost related to Li-based resources. Thus, lithium has been touted as the new gold in energy storage sector. This situation has triggered renewed interest in alternate monovalent and multivalent post-Li-ion batteries, where the potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) can be harnessed for grid storage. The present talk will dwell on few case studies on layered oxide materials for KIBs. Their synthesis, crystal structure, superstructure ordering and electrochemical performance will be described. Oxide insertion materials can be harnessed for K-ion batteries [1-3].
