Research Areas

Performance enhancement of Lithium-ion battery The main goal of our group research is performance enhancement of existing lithium-ion battery using known electrode materials. We use nano-architectured electrode design, optimized electrode structure with optimum porosity, tortuosity etc. and an appropriate binder to enhance the battery performance
Advanced Materials for Lithium, Sodium, Magnesium ion battery The current lithium-ion battery technology based on transition metal oxide cathodes and graphite anodes are trending towards its limitation. As an alternative, our group research is focused on the development of new anode and cathode materials for Li, Na and Mg battery
Li/Na-S battery for large scale storage Moving towards more sustainable battery systems could be moving to metal–sulfur battery systems. In our group, we are working on a few objectives like confinement approaches to trap polysulfides, sustainable sulfur co-polymer production with more than 90% sulfur and protection mechanism of the metallic lithium anode
Ionic Liquid electrolyte for safe battery technology Lithium-ion batteries are likely to remain commercially important for a variety of energy storage applications. Making improvements to their safety issues and operational limitations are important and our group is working on a few conductive solvents largely free from fire and explosion hazards based on room temperature ionic liquids. The hybrid electrolyte concept may play a role in providing safer, more robust energy storage devices
Proto type making and analysis of Lithium-ion battery Worldwide several battery manufacturing companies are expert in prototype making and their characterization as per applications whereas in the academic environment the same is rare. In our group, we have started understanding the prototype making and their characterization techniques. Currently, our lab is equipped with pouch cell prototype instruments and we are developing indigenous technology for the low-cost lithium-ion battery for solar lantern applications.
