One Day Workshop on Solar Thermal Testing and Simulator Facility

With the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, there is a thrust toward Solar Power in India. A lot of research is going on for developing new technologies for solar energy and optimizing them for effective use. In order to carry out research and development in these technologies, IIT Bombay has set up a National Solar Thermal Power, Testing and Simulation Facility with the financial support of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. As a part of the project, a 1 MWe solar thermal power plant has been commissioned. The National Solar Thermal Testing Facility will enable testing and characterization of new and existing solar thermal technologies and/or various components as well as performance of the overall system. A simulation package has also been developed as a part of the project.
A solar thermal simulation package predicts the performance of each equipment of the plant, annual power generation, capital cost and cost of energy for a given configuration. The package can be used for preliminary sizing, heat and mass balance design, off-design simulations and performance evaluation of a small subset of a complete plant or a complete plant. Parametric study can be done changing the system parameters, such as, control variable, place, working fluid and equipment model parameters. The software can be useful to solar equipment suppliers, EPC contractors, investors and others involved in the engineering and analysis of solar thermal power. In order to present the current status of the facility to potential users and to get their feedback, a workshop has been planned on February 21th, 2014 at IIT Bombay. Participation in the workshop is free and based on invitation. If you wish to participate, download the form available in the following link and send the scanned copy of the completed form by email (nishithdesai17@gmail.com, lochana_dhawale@iitb.ac.in). The registration formalities will close on February 6th, 2014. Please note that there is a limit on the number of participants and the selected candidates will be informed through e-mail.
