Abstract:
Energy and Environment play a vital role in industrial, socio-economic growth and sustainable development. India is a growing economy and the fourth largest energy consumer, after China, USA & Japan. India is also the seventh largest producer in the world.
However, unfortunately India's per capita energy consumption is very low ie approximately 624 KGOE versus world average of 1900 KGOE. We are therefore committed to increase the energy consumption and ensure energy security, through multiple sources of energy, with particular reference to renewable sources of energy.
As per the recent report of ICMR, currently in India, one out of eight unnatural deaths are taking place due to air pollution related diseases, particularly traffic pollution, which is a big warning and concern for all of us.
The lecture deals with global and Indian energy scenario , energy security through multiple sources of energy, renewable sources of energy, efficient use of energy, energy conservation, current Government Policies & vision, City Gas Distribution( CGD), both CNG & PNG ,innovations ,environmental protection, concern , human activities degrading nature and remedies , climate change & global warming , challenges ahead etc.
The lecture is designed around arriving at compelling and relevant questions that forms the basis for the much needed Energy & Environment welless of our country.
