I. Scientist Position: Digital Twin Development of RE Dominated Power System (01 position)

The candidate, along with other team members is expected to work on Digital Twin development of one of the Indian RE rich State Grids, and its deployment in the control centre of the concerned grid operator. The Digital Twin is expected to help the State grid operator monitor, analyse, plan and control the grid by empowering the grid operator in taking informed decisions both in advance and in near real time operation with primary focus in handling high RE generation and associated challenges.

Essential qualification and experience:

• The candidate should be having PhD degree in electrical/power engineering, or Maters degree in electrical/power engineering with at least 2 year’s experience.

• EMT modelling, GIS mapping of power system components/assets, Digital twin development at least at device/componenet/element/machine level, experience in any Real time Digital Simulators (Opal-RT/RTDS/Typhoon HIL/equivalent), adequate experience with at least one of the modelling tools from DigSILENT PowerFactory/ PSCAD/PSSE.

• Proficiency in Python and handling of large data set.

Desired Experience:

Experience in Digital twin development, AI/ML application in power system, experience in the field deployment of tools/controllers, Common Information Model (CIM – IEC 61970/61968), Cross-Domain Data Integration, Cybersecurity of power system, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

II. Scientist Position: Power System Modelling and Analysis (2 positions)

The candidates are expected to actively contribute in modelling of power system including transmission and active distribution system, detailed modelling of converter interfaced resources (solar, wind, energy storage), converter interfaced bulk loads (Data centres, electrolysers, MW scale EV charging stations etc.). The modelling and analysis will be carried out in RMS, Dynamic phasor modelling, and EMT domain, coupled with power and control hardware-in-loop (HIL) based analysis.

Essential qualification and experience:

• The candidate should be having PhD degree in electrical/power engineering, or Maters degree in electrical/power engineering with at least 2 year’s experience.

• High proficiency in EMT and RMS modelling with advanced experience of using at least one of the modelling tools from DigSILENT PowerFactory/ PSCAD/PSSE.

Desired Experience:

The candidates should be from electrical power/energy background with experience in modelling of electrical network, BESS, Converter based resources (CBRs). The candidate should have worked on renewable energy integration with good understanding of transmission and distribution system control and operation. Experience in any Real time Digital Simulators (Opal-RT/RTDS/Typhoon HIL/equivalent) will be an added advantage.

III. Scientist Position: Power System Optimisation (2 positions)

The candidates are expected to work closely on various aspects of grid optimization, including but not limited to optimal sizing and siting of new grid elements (BESS, Reactive power compensating devices etc.), generation scheduling, unit commitment, production cost analysis, integrated resource adequacy, optimal operation of RE power plant, optimal design and layout of RE power plant including offshore wind power plants, application of AI-optimisation hybrid methods for various grid applications, optimal design of charging infrastructure (highways, E-bus depots and public charging stations).

Essential qualification and experience:

• The candidate should be having PhD degree in electrical/power engineering, or Maters degree in electrical/power engineering with at least 2 year’s experience.

• Good experience in optimisation, particularly power system optimisation, AI/ML based optimisation, advanced level understanding of optimization methods/problem formulation/large-scale optimization modelling.

• Experience of using at least one of the optimization tools: PyPSA, Julia, GAMS, PLEXOS, GridPath, or equivalent optimization tool.

Desired Experience:

Experience in power system optimization including hands-on experience of implementing optimal AC power flow, optimization of RE dominated grid, integrated resource adequacy, production cost analysis etc.

A special weightage will be given to candidates having experience in implementing multilevel optimization problems.

IV. Scientist Position: Grid-Scale Energy Storage (2 positions)

The candidates are expected to work on different energy storage technologies with primary focus on BESS and PHS, both at the unit/plant level and the system level. This includes modelling, simulation, lab-scale hardware experiments and field implementation related work. Grid connection requirements and grid integration related aspects including design of grid forming control and grid support functionalities for a field implementation in a MW scale BESS plant in one of the States in India is one of the primary tasks to be carried out. Moreover, optimal planning of energy storage technology mix, short-long term energy storage decisions, centralized Vs decentralized storage and potential of emerging storage technologies and associated risk assessment will also be focus of the job profile.

Essential qualification and experience:

• The candidate should be having PhD degree in electrical/power engineering, or Maters degree in electrical/power engineering with at least 2 year’s experience.

• Experience with modelling and analysis of energy storage system (ESS), at least BESS and Pumped hydro storage technology.

Desired Experience:

Modelling and analysis of decenetralised and centralized storage, filed implementation of BESS or PHS, business model development for ESS, modelling and analysis of optimal mix of different ESS technologies for RE integrated system, siting and sizing of ESS in RE dominated power system.

V. Scientist Position: Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) (2 positions)

These positions will require to work on at least three field pilots of V2G and V2H across three different States in India. The candidates are expected to support in shortlisting the top ranked distribution systems (in the identified States) for identifying the city/distribution system for V2G pilot deployment, planning of pilot deployment, field implementation, monitoring and analysis of the field measurements, support in framing draft regulations of V2G/V2H, and development of replication/scaling up of V2G/V2H plan in the identified States.

Essential qualification and experience:

• The candidate should be having PhD degree in electrical/power engineering, or Maters degree in electrical/power engineering with at least 2 year’s experience.

• Experience with implementation of V2G hardware charging system (lab scale or field deployment), modelling and analysis of smart charging/V2G integration.

Desired Experience:

Control and modelling of V2G charger, integration of V2G charging system with V2G EV and the grid, experience in implementation of relevant protocols such as ISO 15118-2/-20, IEC 61851-1, OCPP (preferably OCPP 2.X), OpenADR.
