Dr. Tom Betts
Dr. Betts is an academic in the Applied Photovoltaics Research Group within the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST), School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at Loughborough University. He conducts research and teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Betts' interests include the development of indoor and outdoor PV module characterisation techniques and environmental modelling of factors influencing PV module efficiency under real operation.Current research activities focus on PV module and inverter
characterisation, and the application of these to system lifetime energy yield prediction.Dr Betts maintains the module calibration laboratory and the outdoor PV monitoring facility at CREST and has an interest in measurement uncertainty, data quality and exploratory statistical techniques for data mining.
Dr Betts is a co-investigator of the STAPP project. He is responsible for the Loughborough effort on Work Package 1: Power and Energy Measurements of PV Modules. He will carry out precision calibrations of PV modules, obtaining the necessary characteristics to assess ageing-related change in the devices and to model power output.
