Prof. David Infield

Prof. David Infield leads the Renewable Energy Technology group within the cross campus Institute of Energy and Environment. The purpose is to bring together the considerable expertise at the University of Strathclyde in these subjects. Until recently he was the Director of CREST (Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology) with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University.

His research interests are with electricity generation from renewable energy sources, in particular from wind and photovoltaics (PV), and the integration of these sources into electricity systems large and small. Associated with this central challenge he takes an interest in energy storage technology and application, and demand side management/responsive demand.

Prof. Infield is one of the Accademic team leader of the STAPP project. His team is working on modelling of PV arrays, programming and monitoring an outdoor PV system (including a weather station), and developing a new maximum power point tracker algorithm which will be implemented on test scale inverters for experimental performance verification.
