Dr. Bliss is a Research Associate working in the Applied Photovoltaic Research Group in the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST) within the School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at Loughborough University.

The research areas and interests of Dr. Bliss include various aspects of photovoltaic (PV) device characterization, device performance and measurement uncertainty. With his background and skills in electronics and automation he is also very much interested in hardware development of indoor and outdoor PV measurement systems and PV device characterisation techniques.

Dr. Bliss leads work package two of the STAPP project. His team is working on spatial characterization of PV modules with new and innovative measurement and simulation tools. The workgroup is developing a measurement tool that combines several spatial characterization techniques in one system that includes electro- and photo-luminescence, laser beam induced current, localised spectral response and spectrally resolved luminescence. Furthermore, a simulation tool is being developed that is capable of determining the localised device characteristics of PV devices from the acquired measurements. The tools developed in this group will provide the data necessary to better understand aging of PV devices and determine what is needed to improve performance over lifetime, which in-turn will reduce overall cost of energy.
