Abstract -

To meet the growing energy needs, the installed capacity need to be augmented at an accelerated rate over the next few decades. For this all the sources of power including nuclear have to make a significant contribution. Nuclear power have to play an important ole if the emission of green house gasses has to be kept at manageable level. To discus the importance of nuclear power in this context and brings out Indias current nuclear power plants as well as future projections including ree stage programme of making optimal utilization of Indias resources of Uranium and Thorium. The performance of operating nuclear power plants as well as progress in reactors under construction is brought out. Safety aspects of Nuclear Power Plants are also touched upon.

About the Speaker-
    Joined NPCIL in August, 1969
    Working in the field of Nuclear Reactor Safety Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors.
    Played active role in putting the safety analysis of Indian PHWRs.
    Served as Chairman / Member of various safety committees for preparation of safety codes setup by AERB.
    Currenty holds the position of Executive Director (Safety).
    He is also chairman of NPC-Safety Review Committee.
    Member of AERB Advisory Committee on Nuclear Safety (ACNS), and AERB Committee for Safety Research Programmes.
